Another great classic volume of African hunting by one of the most successful professional ivory hunters of the early 20th century. As was the case with most of the legends of African hunting, Sutherland came from England with a checkered past, knocked about looking for something to do, and drifted into hunting as a way to make money. He took over 1000 tuskers in his career, and as most of the successful hunters like Taylor and others, developed close relationships and affection for the African people. Unfortunately, some of them poisoned him, but he had a fascinating life up until that point. Well written, interesting, as much about the man as the hunt.Product details

The adventures of an elephant hunter James Sutherland 9781177623315 Books Reviews
a good read
Do not waste your money--even $2--on the kindle versions of this book. The translation to is INTOLERABLE. One full line of text followed by another line that is one word. I'd LOVE to read this book but I am NOT going to drive myself batship crazy trying to sort out this stupidity. The SINGLE WORST kindle book I have ever seen--and I've seen some bad ones.
Insightful look at exploitation and hunting in Africa during the first part of the 20th century. Truth can be better than faction.
Very good reading, interesting
A very enjoyable book.
An amazing book that is really a collection of short stories. Fun to read and perfect if you are traveling and have 15 minutes here and there. It also has very good continuity. It is amazing this story was written over a 100 years ago.
As a hunter myself I enjoyed Mr Sutherlands adventures in quest of ivory. as much as he flirted with death, he was fortunate to have made it home. any hunter will like this book.
